Differenziare-Differire
[Differentiate Diverge – 2009]
The joint collaboration with my long-time friend, the photographer Luca Bellumore, began in 2009 and ended in 2010. It arose from the shared need to investigate the many contradictions of everyday life from which we could draw ideas in order to enter another dimension, of art, that was necessary to change “one way directions”. The ‘Differenziare – Differire’ series represents the first moment I approached photography; for years I had been working with sculptural installation using everyday objects and symbols of work such as shirts and project contracts to deconstruct them and strip them of their meaning of social status.
Later, together with Luca, I felt the need to become the protagonist of the discomfort that we were experiencing, and to stage the lack of future photographically. The highlighting of aspects represented, from different angles, the relationships of strength (and of univocal submission) between two elements: society and the individual, one moment in a predictable and (un)aware communion, another in conscious rupture.
Through photography we have made an “odyssey” of work and contemporary existence visible; at the same time we have triggered a contrary reaction, an escape route: having to be makes the being emerge. The “fil blanc” of research is the colour white as the seal of shared artistic vision: the sum of all colours, luminous, essential, straightforward, without time or space.
